Oldbury mum of two keeps cycling in memory of her dad, Bob

Juanita Williams has just returned from her 3rd cycling challenge for Macmillan. After taking part in our Peru and Vietnam challenges, Juanita decided to take on the Great Wall of China, which was the toughest so far.

Juanita’s dad, Bob passed away in 2005 and Juanita started fundraising in his memory that year by taking part in the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning. Bob had always been a keen cyclist so when Juanita heard about our overseas cycling challenges, she decided that was the best way to remember her dad. So in 2006 she set off for Peru and in 2007 she took part in the Vietnam challenge. In October 2008 she cycled through China, which due to unforeseen weather conditions proved to be the toughest challenge yet!

Juanita said:

'On the second day it started to sleet then snow and I was close to getting hypothermia (minus 12 degrees celcius I was told). I was only dressed in lycra leggings, short socks, T-shirt and waterproof – I was wet right through and my feet were so wet and cold they started to get warm – bizarre!

'The trip was tough but that is all part of the challenge and I really enjoyed it and I am already planning the next cycle ride – London to Paris!'

Juanita has so far raised nearly £13,000 in memory of Bob. I think he would be really proud of her!
