Ardnamurchan Abseil

Ardnamurchan Point was the place to be on Sunday 10 August for Macmillan’s second abseil event off the lighthouse.

The event, which had to be postponed the day before due to bad weather, drew over 80 participants who braved the 36m structure to raise over £20,000 for Macmillan’s Highland Appeal.

The strong winds on Saturday 9th put paid to our original plans, however thankfully these calmed down and all but a couple of supporters were able to stay and take part on the Sunday instead.

Most of those who did stay were entertained at Sonafest by the fantastic Vatersay Boys and Gunna Sound Ceilidh Band. Steve Thomas from Free Spirits, who was running the abseil, commented ‘I’ve been to many a Ceilidh but never seen so many people get up and dance for the first song – it was amazing’

Many thanks to the Northern Lighthouse Board, Lighthouse Manager, David Ferguson and Helen Ferguson at the Sonachan Hotel.
